Q. Who is Midatlantic Air Transport Service?
A. Midatlantic Air Transport Service is the d/b/a, MedSTAR Transportation uses for billing purposes.

Q. Why do I have more than one account?
A. MedSTAR Transport issues a separate account number from the receiving hospital. This account number is for transportation services only.

Q. Why do I have to give the same information I gave when I was at the hospital?
A. MedSTAR Transport provides services to many hospitals in the Baltimore-Washington area. It is necessary to verify and update your personal and financial information to accurately handle your account.

Q. Why do you need to copy my insurance card?
A. Your card contains detailed information and instructions for verifying coverage and filing your claims.

Q. Does MedSTAR Transport accept personal checks and credit cards?
A. Yes. You may pay by cash, check, money order or one of many credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover). A form and instructions are available on this website. (add link to page)

Q. Does MedSTAR Transport accept assignment?
A. Yes, MedSTAR will bill your insurance company directly for your helicopter or ambulance service provided. You are responsible for the deductibles and co-payments not paid by your insurance company.

Q. Why did MedSTAR bill me instead of Medicare for the wheelchair services that were provided?
A. Medicare does not cover wheelchair van transportation services. You are responsible for the total cost of the service.

Q. Why was I billed for wheelchair van services when an ambulance was utilized?
A. The medical professional at the hospital requested wheelchair van transportation. At the time of the transport, an ambulance was used due to the unavailability of a wheelchair van. You are responsible for the total cost of the service.

Q. Will all my insurance be billed?
A. Yes. Many secondary/supplemental insurance companies require that your primary insurance pay prior to billing secondary insurance. We will bill second insurance as a courtesy to you. There may be a small charge to bill a third insurance.

Q. How will I know if/when my insurance was billed?
A. MedSTAR Transport sends a bill to all insurance sources identified.

Q. How will I know if/when my insurance has paid?
A. Your insurance company should mail you a copy of the explanation of benefits (EOB) when they process your claim.

Q. Why did my insurance pay the way they did?
A. Your insurance company will process your bill based upon your benefits. Please contact your insurance company or personnel department (if under an employer-sponsored plan) if you do not understand how they processed the bill.

Q. How will I know if my account is paid in full?
A. MedSTAR Transport, unless requested, does not send paid in full statements. When your insurance has paid and you have satisfied the balance of your account, the account will be paid in full and no more statements will be sent.

Q. What if I am not able to pay my bill?
A. You should immediately contact a financial counselor in the MedSTAR Transport business office at toll free (888) 357-9977.

Q. What are the hours of operation?
