History
On July 3, 1983, MedSTAR Transport began a tradition of providing service to the entire metropolitan region. It was the first hospital-based air medical service in the Washington area. MedSTAR Transport’s area of focus quickly grew from responding to accident scenes to performing interfacility transfers of critically ill and injured patients. Since that day in the summer of 1983, the program has flown over 40,000 patients.
Twenty five years later, with the support and commitment of the Washington Hospital Center and Medstar Health, MedSTAR Transport has grown into the region's busiest air medical transport system. MedSTAR Transport has maintained its certification by the Committee on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS) since 1998.
As we embark on our 25th year, we utilize five EC-135 helicopters, have three remote base sites in Maryland and one base at the Washington Hospital Center, a maintenance facility in Fort Meade, MD, and employ a staff of over 100 highly skilled and trained individuals.
MedSTAR Transport would like to thank all of our partners for working with us to provide excellent patient care for 25 years, and we look forward to continued collaboration in the future.
