Ride Along Program
***The Ride Along program will be suspended from June 1 through August 31, please check back with us in September!
Thank you for your interest in the MedSTAR Transport Ride Along (RAL) program.
We have the benefit of offering an opportunity for observers to share in the daily operations of our critical care transport program.
Observers may participate once. If you do not get an opportunity to fly on your observation day you may reschedule at your convenience. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances your RAL may be postponed. If this occurs, MedSTAR Transport will attempt to contact you with as much notice as possible.
If you are unable to make your RAL for any reason please contact our communications center prior to the start of the shift. If you fail to appear, there will not be an opportunity to reschedule.
Qualifications for MedSTAR Transport’s RAL program include:
· Applicant must be 18 years of age or older · Applicants weight must not exceed 90 kilograms · Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and/or Fire Department personnel · Healthcare personnel employed in our coverage area · Medical students and residents within MedStar Health · Others approved by MedSTAR Transport management
The weight limit for observers is 80 kilograms. Once you are fitted with a flight suit and helmet the crew members will weight you to ensure an accurate weight is available for weight/balance calculations.
Per MedSTAR Transport Dress Code Policy: All RAL’s must practice daily hygiene, have clean uniforms, no visible tattoos or other forms of body art or modification are allowed. Make-up is to be applied in moderation and observers should refrain from using fragrances. Hair will be clean and hairstyles such as spiked, shaved messages, striped and or non-traditional hair colors are NOT acceptable. Long hair must be worn up, and secured back. The crew will have the final say as to whether your attire and appearance is appropriate.
Observers must present a government issued photo ID the day of your RAL. Prior to your scheduled RAL, your name will be checked against the FAA flight restriction list.
The pilot in command (PIC) will have final authority as to whether you may board the aircraft.
